Devotional: What Legacy Will You Leave Behind?

“Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray”.

Proverbs 10:17

MEDITATION: If I choose to grow in wisdom daily, seeking wise counsel, listening to correction, growing in wisdom and love, healing myself internally, and seeking the Lord in all things, I will be able to lead others in wisdom and correction. I will be a blessing and confidant to others.

Devotional: The question isn’t whether or not we will live a life of legacy. This is inevitable. We were created to leave a legacy.

The question is, what kind of legacy will we leave behind, and how do we define the time, “legacy?”

Is it leaving behind a large inheritance for our grandchildren?

Being rich and famous?

Traveling the world?

What is it?

With that being said, what is your definition of legacy, how long will this legacy last?

Generations pass, never to remember your name. Your great, great grandchildren may launder all your money until there’s nothing left. Pictures of your glamorous traveling adventures will eventually be thrown into storage, collecting dust beside your ashes, just as finite as your very life.

Such things disappear nearly as quickly as we do.

The passage above made me realize what kind of legacy I want to leave behind.

That which can be transferred through all generations, whether they remembered me or not.

While I am still in my youth, single, possibly years before my children arrive, I want to use this time wisely.

I want to grow.

I want to learn.

I want the Holy Spirit to heal me from all my wounds and scars that live within, saving my children from generational trauma.

I want to learn the art of communication.

I want to fall overwhelmingly in love with the Lord until I don’t even know who I am without him.

I want him to be every fabric of my being: my peace, strength, comfort, courage, confidence, and hope until I am floating on air because of the beautifully-overbearing sensation of his divine presence.

I want these aspects to be such a part of me they become my testimony, that people automatically see Christ in me.

This is the legacy I want to live.

This is the legacy I want my children to live.

This is the legacy I want you to live.
